This is my group and I's finished midterm draft. There are still quite a few things we will need to do to fix it. This is our script for our film. (incidental music slows/ gets quieter) Dad: We're almost to our new house! (glances at Sam while driving) Sam: Mm great (sarcastic & unenthusiastic) Dad: Listen I know you're not happy about moving but.. we don't want what happened last year to happen again. Sam: I know Dad: You need to understand.. (cut off by Sam) Sam: Lets just not talk about it, okay? (reaches for radio and turns it up) (pulls up to house scenes of them taking boxes out of car and putting in garage) (boy next door comes to help her, she almsot drops box) Sam: Thank you Tyler: No problem. My group Sydney and I have came up with a plan for when we are completing each task before the mid term draft is due. It is due on the 21st of December. We have decided that this Sunday we will film with our actors. We will be filming all day to make sure we get all the scenes needed. However we also need another day of filming to film the scenery where the actors are not needed for that day. We will be filming that after school on Monday of next week. It will only take a few hours to film that part. That way I have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to edit and finalize the draft for Friday. If we do not have enough clips of film that week we will go and re-film whatever we need so we can finish. On Friday we will submit it.

Sydney and I have cast our actors for our film. It took alot of deciding to figure out who would work well in the film. The way we cast for it was we asked Sydney's friends if they would like to play the parts. We have decided to only have 3 characters in the film intro to make it more understandable with the plot. There will be the main character whose name is Samantha goes by Sam for short. Sam will be played by Debra. The next character is The dad of Samantha who will be played by Collin. And the third character will be the boy next door, who is named Tyler. Tyler is played by Zach.  All of these actors have agreed to play these roles. Sydney and I went location hunting for our film yesterday, December 11. First we came up with our ideas and my thoughts for the film in class. I had a certain theme in mind that I though would be good to fit the conventions of a teen drama. We narrowed down our options and chose the places that we think will best suit the mood we are going for in the film. To chose the locations we drove around downtown and the beaches. We visited various things and places. Also we looked at multiple houses to determine which house will fit best for our scenes located there. The first location we chose for our establishing shot is a view of Lido Key Beach. I want to get a clip of the waves and beach there. The next location we found is a parking garage downtown so we can get a overlook shot of downtown from the top of the building. The fifth film my group and I analyzed was 10 Things I Hate About You. It is also a teen drama.  In the introduction the jobs shown are all the main actors and the title of the movie. It also shows the companies presenting a producing the film. It starts with an animation of a town fading into a real life shot of the town which is the establishing shot. The establishing shot then turns into pan camera shot as it rotates to the right. Sound techniques used in the first two minutes are the incidental music at the start, but then once the main character comes into frame the sound changes. The sound changes to digetic sound from the main characters car, the song is lot different from the previous music so it shows her character and the differential attitude. Mis-en-scene shown is the location which is a school. And the props are backpacks and school supplies. The budget for this film was 16 million dollars, and they made a profit of 53.5 million dollars. The fourth film my group and I analyzed the first two minutes of was The Breakfast Club. It is a teen drama. In the first two minutes of the introduction, it introduces the story line. Which is a group of teenagers showing up to school on a Saturday for detention, it also introduces how their opinions change throughout the movie on each other. There is a establishing shot of the school hallway and the lockers in the school. It sets up the mood and plot of the story showing the teenagers with their parents. A film making technique with the sound used is incidental music in the background of the beginning scene. It is 80s music and it is upbeat to start the story. Mis-en-scene in the introduction is the costume for each of the characters. All of them are dressed differently to show their personalities which will make up the rest of the story. The third film opening my group and I analyzed was Scream. It is a teen thriller/horror. In the first two minutes it introduces the story line of a a girl being called on the phone over and over. It creates the mood of being intense and suspicious. Camera shots that were used were a pan camera it remained in place but rotated as she moved around. Editing used were short takes of the phone whenever it would ring it would cut back and forth between scenes. Sound techniques they used were in the very beginning clip of the title they used sound bridge of a phone ringing and a girl screaming and then faced into the scene of the girl picking up the phone. Mis-en-scene used was the fog shown over the pool in the dark presenting a darker mood. It also includes the location . The second film opening my group and I analyzed was Clueless. It is a teen drama. In the first 2 minutes of the film it introduces to plot and it tells about her life. It is the main character describing her basic teen life and how she lives it. This sets up the rest of the movie. The first part of the film they used a cartoon sequenced to introduce the movie. In this they used a smooth transition from the production company to the title. All in the same youthful bright colors. Some film making techniques that were used were with sound. They had incidental music playing in the background to show the mood of happiness. It was music that suits the time and the character. The very first clip was a aerial shot showing the main character driving her jeep. A hand held camera is used as it follows her around. I analyzed the film opening of Mean Girls. It was a teen drama. Within the first two minutes of the story is introduces that she is a new girl and it is her first day of high school. It also introduces that she was previously home schooled. There were various film making techniques used, examples are is that the very first scene is a low angle shot symbolizing that the her parents are quite older than her and could be considered superior. Also to compare that they still see her as a child.  We then see the camera turn as they hand her her lunch for school. The camera is now tilted upwards to symbolize the she is in essence below them and younger, however they are not speaking to a child, and their daughter is much older than they acted. This angle also could be shown due to the fact that she is weaker than the other characters because she is the 'new girl'. In the first two minutes it also shows flashback scenes to show her previous life, comparing it to where she is now. ...

After weighing all my pros and cons of each option; film or magazine. I have chosen the film project. Skills I possess that would make this choice best fit for me is I know how to edit on Song Vegas Pro to make the finished product the film, and add all the cuts, transitions and sound needed. Also I am interested in filming and recording the film. I am a lot more interested in the editing aspect of a film rather than using Photoshop for a magazine or some other picture editing program. Another thing that makes this a good choice for me is that I have a canon rebel camera that i think would work good to film with. The genre I would like to make the film would be a drama, thriller, or a mystery. I will be working in a group with one or more people, yet to be determined. There will be one or more person that works with the filming and recording of the scenes. I will be editing the finished product. There are many aspects that draw me more towards this option, the film option. Based off what we have learned in class about film, I think many things make this a good choice for me. Aspects of film that interest me are the acting for the film and the filming. I think it would be very interesting to go out and find locations to film at, I really enjoy finding new things so it would be interesting to find good locations that would find my story line. Also for the editing of films I have experience with editing so I think it will be a good fit. I have been using the program Sony Vegas Pro 13 and 14 for 2 years so I am accustomed to the system, therefore I can edit the film easily. I also know how to use Adobe After Effects and iMovie. I like to edit clips based on the mood you want, like for a horror you can edit suspenseful angles in and music to make the audience scared. Furthermore I enjoy creating and coloring my own filters for the theme on SVP 13, also creating new transition...

There are multiple reasons why I personally believe the magazine would be a good choice for me yet also a bad choice. Based on what we have learned in class, some aspects of print journalism that I think would interest me are taking the photos for the magazine. I think I would like to take the photos for the articles and for the cover page because you can be creative, you can come up with whatever you would like for ideas for the photo shoots. I saw many examples of how others did their photos through the previous blog samples. I would want to do a fashion editorial type photo if I was to choose this option. I also really enjoy writing however only have experience with story writing not journalism, so that may be a downfall. Based off learning about All the Presidents Men and the Newsroom it seems like writing a magazine would be stressful and a lot of work.  I think for the articles I would like to do a fashion magazine because I have most experience with reading those.
